I had the pleasure of photographing this beautifully fun family this fall. At their home they just moved into, they played and laughed and jumped on the bed and I got to capture it for them. I love being a photographer. I love being invited into people’s homes to capture lovely folks in their comfortable spaces. and I love lovely photo sessions.
lovely – wedding stranger love

so i just drove past a couple on their wedding day.
ok, first…i teared up. as usual.
then, i noticed, that strangers were honking, and cheering, and yelling congrats to the bride and groom.
i’ve seen this before, we all probably have. but this is the first time that i just couldn’t get over how awesome that was. that strangers are showing love for each other. not something we see as often as I’d like anyway. so i’m calling it:
stranger love.
next time you see a wedding party, and a happy and in-love bride and groom. give them your best stranger love. they could use a little encouragement, right?
here are a couple photos from our wedding day in venice, italy where we got PLENTY of stranger love. this happened to be a tour group walking by us. they stopped, started yelling “aguri” (congratulations or similar greeting in italian) and wouldn’t let us go until we kissed, to which they applauded wildly. SO MUCH stranger love. how awesome is that? now these people are part of our relationship, part of our wedding story. AWESOME.
so don’t forget next time you pass a wedding (or a stranger in general) - give some STRANGER LOVE!
lovely organic linen girl’s dress

i recently made a simple (yes simple! you could make one too!) little pillowcase style dress for a sweet little girl to wear on her third birthday. i chose to make it with organic linen and some cute flowery fabric for the ties on the shoulders, with matching pink thread to add a little touch of color. i think it turned out great! especially for it being my first time making this style dress. can be worn for all sorts of events – parties, play, with some tights and long sleeve underneath – a perfect fall outfit. next up – making a similar one for my lovely little girl!

something lovely – a handmade baby gift…
31 Aug 2010 Leave a Comment
i’m guessing most of us have a handmade gift that we love, that once upon a time, someone special gave to us. i know i do. i have many (i’m very sentimental), but off the top of my head, i immediately think of the pair of booties that my mom made for me when i was a baby, and i was so excited to be able to put them on my own baby when she was born (except that her feet were way too big!)…
so in the spirit of handmade goodness, i decided to attempt to make a baby shower gift which included a baby blanket, reversible bib, and burp cloth set for a lovely, pregnant friend of mine. i made each one with love (and lots of imperfections) and nervously waited for her to open her gift at her shower, just hoping that she didn’t give it that ”i’m smiling even though i think it’s totally atrocious” look. and finally, as she opened it, it actually got oohs and ahhs from the other girls, and my pregnant friend anna whispered to me later in the night that it was her favorite gift. wow.
here are a couple photos of the finished gifts! what do you think – lovely? or not?

if you haven’t been to the Guthrie Theater and you’re ever in the minneapolis area, you should go check it out! it’s an ultra-modern, unique building housing three stages, and also has these great colorful yellow and blue glass rooms that look out onto the mississippi river and downtown minneapolis. i photographed a family recently in the building (the building is free and open to the public) – it was my first time in there (shame on me for not going sooner). i’ve heard great things and seen beautiful photographs taken in the space and finally it was my turn to try it out! here are a few photos from our session below. for a hip (or even vintage-inspired couple – great juxtaposition!), this just could be the perfect spot for a wedding ceremony and/or reception!
